A deputy candidate was denied registration on the grounds of his copyrights.
District Election Commission No. 24 cancelled the decision to register Asylbek Kozhakhmetov, a candidate for the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan in North Kazakhstan region, reports Exclusive.kz referring to the Kazakhstan Press Club.
The reason for the cancellation of registration was that the Department of State Revenues of Bostandyk District of Almaty had provided information about the inaccurate information that Kozhakhmetov had allegedly provided in the tax declaration handed in when registering as a candidate. He did not mention the copyright to the television script of the management game Business Leader registered back in 2001, which he never used.
Meanwhile, copyright is a personal non-property right, which is not an asset and is not subject to declaration. Kozhakhmetov believes that this is yet another attempt to exclude his name from the list of candidates. The first time it failed when he was denied registration, but he proved his case through the Central Election Commission.
"This decision limits Asylbek Kozhakhmetov's constitutional rights to BE ELECTED! According to paragraph 3 of Article 33 of the Constitution of the RK citizens recognized incapable by court and those kept in places of confinement by a court sentence do not have the right to elect and be elected. Any other restrictions are out of the question!

The authorities manipulate this 9th paragraph of the declaration, using this answer in their own interests. Kozhakhmetov's case proves it! The work of Kozhakhmetov's staff had just begun to gain momentum, and now they decided to remove him from the election race as the main opponent of the appointed candidate. Unfortunately, these are the familiar methods of old Kazakhstan," the press club adds.
Asylbek Kozhakhmetov believes that the actions of opponents are not only a destruction of the electoral process, but also a threat to democracy in the country. He calls on the authorities to take the necessary measures to ensure the fairness and transparency of the elections, and to restore justice.
We should remind that this is not the only case when candidates are suspended because of "discrepancies in the tax declaration. Earlier, activist Asiya Tulesova was dismissed from the election to the Maslikhat of Almaty for the same reason.
