On January 19, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev dissolved the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the seventh convocation. Tokayev also signed a decree "On the Early Termination of the Powers of Maslikhats of All Levels."
The President noted that the people of Kazakhstan supported political transformations at the referendum, including those aimed at updating the procedure for forming the parliament and maslikhats.

According to the reform, the number of mandates in the Mazhilis has been reduced to 98 instead of 107. Also, the elections will be held not only by election according to party lists, but also for specific candidates.

In the upcoming elections, 70% of the deputies of the Mazhilis will be elected on party lists, and 30% from single-mandate districts.

According to the mixed electoral system, in a 50-50 ratio, elections to maslikhats of regions and cities of republican significance will also be held.
